Boys of Summer book Entry #59

I was anxious but excited because I knew I was meeting Annamaria there. We had a place to stay at Junior’s (Migdalia’s cousin -- very wonderful man). I arrived two hours ahead of Annamaria at JFK. We rode the train to the subway, then took the subway in to Times Square. Annamaria knew how to do it, which was great. I didn’t have to figure anything out. Junior met us there. He took us out to lunch. He was so generous -- so happy we were there. He took us over to meet Migdalia’s father and family. Junior got in line for us at 1/2 price tickets. Annamaria had seen The Producers, but hadn’t seen Phantom of the Opera, so we got tickets for that.

Junior took us down to Wall Street, the World Trade Center, Battery Park. We have pictures with Annamaria and the bull on Wall Street. Junior rode the subway back with us -- making it easy.

We were both exhausted (because we flew in on red-eyes), but took one hour naps, got up and went to the theater. The show was fantastic.

Afterward she wanted Pasta Bolonogese and I wanted Fettucini Alfredo. Sardi’s is the legendary place and we went there. But they were very snooty to us, so we walked out. They didn’t need our business. We went in to another restaurant that was great -- wonderful food, had a glass of wine -- felt like uptown girls. Very fun.

The next morning we slept in. We had Dunkin Donuts the next morning, then asked how to get to Yankee Stadium. Got all kinds of different advice. We got very lost. A young man asked us where we were going. We told him and he said -- follow me. We trusted him. It was out of his way, but he got us there. There are nice people out there.

We saw Bob and Dan from the platform of the subway. I couldn’t wait to see Dan. But apparently he didn’t think we had been apart that long! (laughs) But he was on the trip and I was alone.
